This course covers some of the major scientific traditions in ancient India, including Brahmanical education system, linguistics, mathematics, astronomy, astrology, medicine, etc. The course consists of two parts: lectures and tutorials. The latter focuses on basic Sanskrit grammar and reading, using excerpts from original Sanskrit texts as examples to explore how scientific knowledge was encoded and transmitted, and how such texts may be deciphered.
